The Beauty of the Off-Season: November to Easter"

"In Italy, the off-season runs from November through Easter Week. While the weather can be chilly and occasionally rainy, it is one of the most rewarding times to visit. The cities are quiet and wonderfully empty, allowing you to experience the world's most famous monuments in peace.

This is the perfect time for authentic local experiences—from cozy wine tastings in historic cellars to intimate tours of art galleries without the crowds. It is a season of crisp air, shorter lines, and a truly soulful side of Italy that most tourists never get to see.

Where to?

Cities during winter offer great hotel deals, excellent shopping, and uncrowded art collections. Better to be prepared with an umbrella and a scarf. We suggest Rome and Florence as first choices, but even Turin and Venice are magical. For us, Naples and Pompeii remain a uniquely interesting destination.

City hotels

Summer destinations close during the off-season, but centrally located hotels offer great deals and a more relaxed pace. This is the perfect time for city inns or spas. In Tuscany, for example, hot springs are open year-round with natural thermal pools. You can enjoy hours of relaxation just a few miles away from world-class art collections.

What in the mood for?

Art and food are doable any month. The pictures you see refer to the Sistine Chapel, Michelangelo’s Moses in Rome, the great spas of Tuscany, Val d’Orcia views, and Pompeii. All are perfectly doable during winter—as is truffle hunting.

  • It means entering the Vatican before it opens or after it closes to the general public. It's just you, your guide, and the silence of the galleries. It’s expensive, it’s rare, and it’s how the Sistine Chapel was meant to be seen.

  • Everywhere. Main cities for the parties, small villages for the street festivals.

For example, one week:

2 days Rome: art and food

2 days Florence: museums and wines

2 days Turin: chocolate and Barolo
